Face of the Night: 26th of May 2013

Tonight is one of my best guy friend's 19th birthday and after I finished my makeup, I really liked how it turned out so I decided to so an impromptu blog post about it.

It is a night time look, but I feel like you can just take off the fake lashes and it easily becomes a day look and besides maybe the fake lashes, there's nothing really technical about it.

Ok, let's get into the makeup!

I think the first thing we can take away from these photos is that I should not be a makeup model... sorry again for the horrible lighting, but it was an instant choice to do this post and it was night time so I couldn't use natural light.

Comments, Thoughts and Reviews of Products:
  • I just on a whim bought the Eylure Naturalites Eyelashes and I was not disappointed! They are really natural looking with thin lashes so they blend in well with your own lashes. The only thing that would make them look fake was that they were a bit long to get away with as normal lashes but that didn't bother me. The pack came with glue inside so I decided to use their glue and have a go and I found that a small thin layer wasn't enough, you needed to apply generously for them to stay on. The glue does dry clear so the result wasn't an issue, but it's annoying the amount of glue you need. I can't really fault them in any other way. The lash vein is clear so it helps even more with blending into you own lash line.
  • Maybelline New York Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer is something I've been hearing loads about from other beauty people and I was so excited to buy this. The product conceals and highlights so well! You only need a bit and blend and it has a light consistency and doesn't crease nor does it cake. It has a really even and flawless finish.
  • Sleek Face Form Kit is a product that will definitely be going in my travel kit! It contains bronzer, blush and highlighter in a really small and easy to carry case. The bronzer and highlighter are the exact from the contour kit. The bronzer is matte and a light chocolate colour but it doesn't look orange at all. The highlighter is a really soft off white with a pink undertone with shimmer. It's really subtle when applied so if you want more of a highlight, you are going to have to go in for a second swab. The blush in the fair kit is an orange version of Nars Orgasm blush. What I mean is, it's got the gold shimmer and pink but with a very strong terracotta/orange colour to it as well. I personally love the colour and on the cheeks it definitely comes off more terracotta than pink and this blush is very pigmented so use a light hand. I also wanted to add that the mirror that comes with this compact fills the whole lids space so you get a giant mirror with it which is always a plus.
  • NYX Lipgloss is once again another product everyone has raved about and I've jumped on the bandwagon a bit late, but this is my new go to lip product if I want a natural look or something to wear to uni. It's got a cute bow on top of the cap so it's adorable to look at and the smell of it has a cherry scent to it so it's amazing to smell while you're applying it to your lips. The applicator has longer hair than usual lip glosses which mean you get more product in one dip and it's easier to apply. The pigmentation is amazing, it's fully pigmented and when it's rubbed off, it leaves a little stain to the lips so you still have some colour.

So that's it for my makeup for the evening, hope you guys liked it! Please check out my previous FOTD blog post.

Talk to you soon!

25 Facts About Me!

Tiff and I at our friend's birthday/new years eve party!
Dec 2012
Hey guys I thought I'd just do a fun post today firstly because I'm procrastinating a biology project and secondly because I've read a few of these and they look fun to do!

1) I put sweet chilli sauce on EVERYTHING!
If there's a choice of sauces, it's sweet chilli for me. Anytime we went camping, I'd bring a whole bottle of sweet chilli sauce to add flavour to crappy camp meals and it's always been empty on the way home.

2) I don't like milo or vegemite.
I know, how un-Australian, but I just find the flavour of milo bland and don't get me started on how people just eat the powder by itself! I don't understand why eating a powder is delicious? Wouldn't it be similiar to the cinnamon challenge? Vegemite just tastes bitter and like spreadable beer (you can conclude I also don't like beer).

3) My favourite candle is from Dusk and is the scent Lychee and Black Tea (Destination collection, Tibet).

4) I'm a cat person.
I so desparately want to be a dog person (maybe one day I'll find a big fat lazy dog that doesn't require too much walking and one that I can just cuddle with that has lots of fur and flab and it's be cute and... i need to stop), but after 13 years of having cats and just love them curling up on you and purring, I have to say I'm a cat lover.

5) My favourite book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
If you have not read it, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?! If you haven't read any John Green books, then you need to re-examine your choices and after you're done doing that, go to your bookstore and purchase all of them! I'll tie in that John Green is my favourite authour.

6) I still have my miniature christmas tree set up in my room AND IT'S MAY!

7) My favourite season is autumn.

8) My most loved disney films are Mulan and The Lion King.

9) Following on from number 8, I know all the words to Lion King and Lion King 2 songs.
I'm not ashamed to admit it!

10) I am a grade 6 AMEB Clarinetist!

11) I'm terrified of darkness, spiders (I have horror stories), heights and ice skating.

12) My sense of smell and long distance vision is horrible.
I don't wear glasses or anything though just because I don't find it to be much of an issue... for now. I think my nose just always sucked at doing it's job.

13) I don't eat seafood.
It's not a "I don't like the taste" scenario because I actually have never tried it. I just can't do it. I'm sure it tastes lovely and I don't mind the occasional prawn, but fish and octopus and shell things... I can't.

14) I'm really gullible.
If you tell me anything and you're a good actor (let's be honest, you don't even have to be good) I'll believe you. Even if you say the sky is falling!

15) I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to sport.
Well all sports besides badminton and dancing, otherwise I give it a go, but I'll proverbly either fall on my face or arse.

16) My (now not so secret) guilty pleasure is Disney channel.
I am obsessed with Hannah Montana and High School Musical! I also love The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Wizards of Waverley Place, Camp Rock, That's So Raven and Phineas and Ferb.

17) I ALWAYS have my nails painted.
Right now they're painted Australis Nail Colour in Blue Tiger.

18) I have a Tiger Pillow Pet and his name is Doug and I sleep with him every night!

I'll let the last seven be in the form of my youtube video that I made ;)

I hope you enjoyed reading and please comment below some interesting facts about you, or link me a video/blog post you've done about facts about you!

Talk to you soon!

Book Review: Looking For Alaska

This is the second time I've read Looking For Alaska by John Green and it's definitely a book that I will be visiting again. I first picked up the book back in 2008 after my sister recommended it to me, and despite being only 13 while reading it, I really enjoyed it. Now that I'm 18 and actually understand everything that happens in the book, I loved it even more.
Published in 2006
I'll be honest, it's really hard to give a synopsis of the book without spoilers but the gist is boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, then one mistake in the middle of the night changes things. It's obviously WAY more complicated than that, but the MAIN story line follows that.

The book deals with family, love, death, loss, friendship/relationships, regret and empathy. I've just made it sound like a really heavy book but it's not (unless you get really emotionally invested in characters like I do). Yes it deals with some adult themes that I don't think many children below the age of 15 will truly understand, but at the same time I wouldn't rule this book out for young teens nor say they won't enjoy it, because I certainly did the first time I read it. It's a book that doesn't take effort to think about, the language is simple and easy to read for everyone. The book is actually really uplifting and despite some awful things happening, I feel John Green wanted us to focus on the more positive and inspiring qualities on the book; thus focusing on love and relationships more than anything.

As a teenager reading it, I found it, I don't want to say relatable because I personally have not had the same experiences, but I understood aspects of the book that people in a different age bracket would judge differently. I know I'm not making any sense. It's a book that more girls would enjoy compared to boys but I highly recommend any teenager to read this book. I personally would not store this in my children's fiction section like all book stores, but young adults definitely.

What books are you guys reading? Anything you guys recommend and want a review on?

Thoughts From Places: Wilsons Promontory

A few months ago my friends and I decided to take a camping trip to Wilsons Promontory, which if you don't live in Victoria, or even Australia, you might not even know about.

Wilsons Promontory is a peninsula located at the most South East point of Victoria and most is protected by the Wilson Promontory National Park. It's surrounded by beaches and mountains that made it perfect for a long trail walk/hike and beach trips in the afternoon.
Meet the Campers!

We went during the Easter break in the last week of March, thus it was Autumn weather; the days where warm (18-25 degrees celsius) but the nights were freezing (0-5 degrees celsius). I'll be honest, the main point of the trip was to get away from uni work and chill out with all our friends as we don't get to see each other that often (though some were unable to come) and have a few cheeky drinks ;). We booked two camping spots and slept in tents for the 5 days and 4 nights that we were away. I can't really tell you a daily recount of everything that happened because 1) I actually can't remember and 2) if I actually did, it'd be a short novel, but I'll tell you about the highlights.

First was when the final 15th member of the group arrived on site because it meant that we were all together again! Naww I feel like this is when we should jump into the chorus of High School Musical together! It was just nice to see everyone's faces after weeks of not seeing some people and waking up in the morning and knowing a friend was right next to you to have a joke with and start the day on a positive. And no, I wasn't about to kill anyone by the last day... well kill is a bit extreme. We definitely had tough moments, especially during dinner preparations and setting tents up, but of course no one held on to it and we all moved past little tiffs because we were all tired from lack of sleep. Memories from this trip are gonna be forever engraved in my mind and I grew closer with friends I thought I couldn't possibly be any closer with (was that even english?.... sorry Mr B).

Second was our walk or should I say PILGRIMAGE to Squeaky Beach. Ok I'm being a bit overdramatic, the walk wasn't bad at all and was a nice way to clear the lungs (after you've finished throwing them up... I'm kidding... *cough*). The walk was about 5km and took around 40 minutes for the whole herd to land on the beach. Though the beach is famous for the squeaky noise the sand makes when the wind blows, there wasn't much squeaking that day (am I the only one with a wrong image in my mind? Ok I'll stop) but it was still really lovely! The sand was a bit more gritty than the sand on the beach that was closer to our camp but it was still really lovely compared to sand back in Melbourne. The rock surfaces were brilliant for climbing and sitting on (I did more of the latter because of my fear of heights) but others had fun. The water was cold, but so blue and clean and wonderful! We didn't go swimming, but it was so tempting to just jump in. The beach is honestly just so beautiful and picturesque that my crappy iPhone doesn't do it any justice.

Third was definitely having the freedom and responsible of what can kinda be mirrored in living with friends and having to be responsible enough with money, planning ahead, meal plans, food buying and travel. It was also a whole trip that I paid for completely 100% with my own money, and though it didn't cost much in comparison to actually moving out or a trip, it still was really cool to know that I earned this.

There's a million things I haven't even gotten to but I feel the main things I did touch on. If you get a chance to come to Victoria and an opportunity to go to Wilsons Promontory, DO IT! Yes it's not the most exciting, and yeah it's not the most famous locale, but it's stunning, it's beautiful, it's a secret treasure in Victoria's back pocket. It holds so many great memories I have with some of the best friends and people I could ever have.

Where are your secret treasured locations? Any funny camping stories you wish to share?

Until next time, see you soon!

Welcome to My Blog!

Hey guys! Welcome to my new blog, how exciting!

My name is Katie Power, I'm 18 years old and from Melbourne, Australia. I'm currently in my first year at university studying science, which will hopefully lead on to a Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine course.
This is my face! Well my face is the one on the left. The one on the right is my best friend Niki!
This was taken during our last week of year 12 (Oct, 2012).
During the spare time that I think I have (that really should be used to study for my upcoming exams) I spend 98% of it on the internet. I have an unsuccessful YouTube channel (hahah! no seriously) that I have been uploading on for a few months now. I started it as just a hobby and something fun I could do, check it out if you wanna. I also have a Tumblr that I've had for about 2 years and a Twitter that I use to stalk people while drowning my sorrows in twisties and vodka. I'm kidding, I also eat pringles.

I have a weird hobbies that doesn't really mesh together really. I love animals (hence wanting to be a vet in the future), makeup, the internet (yes it's a hobby!) and strangely badminton though I never really get to play anymore.

I love my friends so much that I consider them family and will do anything for them. I know they have been there in the past for me, on multiple occasions. I met them all during my high school years and we are still as close friends now that we are out and doing our own thing so I know we'll be friends for years to come (that sounded really cheesy.......).

I think that's all for now, about me anyway, if I think of anything I'll just write another post. It's my blog, I do what I want.

OH WAIT! I probably should tell you about what this blog will contain. This blog will feature anything I feel like posting about (how specific), there's really no way else to describe it. It'll range from makeup to fashion, current events and celebrations, to food and movies reviews, thoughts from places etc. Anything that holds my attention for more than 0.5 seconds.

That's all for now! BYE!
